Red Delicious Apple Applique Crochet Pattern

I love these little apple appliques, especially as an adornment for coffee cup cozies! These little guys are easy to make and are a great accent to add to gifts for teachers, farmers, or anyone just hoping to keep the doctor away.

Skill: Beginner

mc – magic circle

sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
tr – treble crochet
inc – increase (2 of the same specified stitch in one stitch of the previous round)

Apple (red)

MC. Ch 2 (counts as 1st dc), 11 dc in circle. Join and pull circle tight. (12)

Round 2: There are 2 stitches in each stitch of the previous row. Each comma represents moving to the next stitch of the previous round. The bottom of the apple is defined in [brackets].

Ch1 hdc dc, tr inc, dc hdc, hdc inc, hdc inc, [dc ch 1 sl st, sl st ch 1 dc,],  hdc inc, hdc inc, hdc dc, tr inc, dc hdc. Do not join.

Stem (brown)

With red yarn still on your hook, insert hook into beginning chain of round 2. Yo with brown and complete sl st.

Chain 3. Sc into 2nd and 3rd chains from hook. Do not join. Fasten off.

Using yarn needle or hook, pull the end through the next stitch of the apple. Turn over and tie to other brown end.

Leaf (green)

Ch 4. Sc into 2nd ch from hook. 1 hdc in 2 remaining chains. Fasten off.

Thread the end from the beginning chain through the base of the stem. Tie to the finishing end, around the stem.

Sew in and/or trim edges. I like to keep the finishing end of the apple body (red) long in order to sew the apple to whatever it’s adorning.
